Daily Lingo

Privacy Policy

Last updated 7 September 2026

Daily Lingo is a language-learning app. This policy explains what it collects, what it does not, and how to remove your data.

The short version. Personal learning progress stays on your device. If you join a class on the web, the class work you submit and the name you enter are stored so your teacher can respond. Conversations are temporary; selected corrections are saved only when you choose. There is no advertising identifier, and no advertising or tracking network of any kind.

What is stored on your device

Your streak, daily goal, completed lessons, saved phrases, and review schedule are held only on your phone. They are not uploaded, and deleting the app removes them.

What is sent to our servers

DataWhyKept for
A random installation identifier To apply usage limits and measure running costs. It is generated on your device, is not an advertising identifier, and is reset if you reinstall. Until you delete your data
Account identifier, if you sign in So your usage is recognised across your devices. We receive an opaque identifier from Apple or Google, not your password. Until you delete your account
Teacher sign-in on the web, if you are a teacher To keep you signed in to the teacher workspace. We keep the opaque account identifier above, whether the account has teacher access, and for each signed-in browser a hashed session token and the times it was created and last used. Not your name or email. Each sign-in ends after 14 days unused or 30 days at most; the rest until you delete your account
Your name, if you choose to share it at sign-in To show it in the app. It is stored on your device only. On your device only
Conversation practice messages Sent to generate the next reply in the conversation. Not retained. Processed and discarded.
Aggregate usage counts Number of requests, processing size, response time, and errors, so we can keep the service within budget. Operational logs; contains no message text
A reply you report If you use "Report this reply", we receive that conversation-partner reply, the reason you chose, and the turn's technical reference, so we can review it and improve our content filters. Nothing you wrote is included. Operational logs

Classes on the web

Classrooms on the web are for adult learners only, not for anyone under 18 or for school groups. Joining is optional and does not create a general Daily Lingo student account. The browser receives a random, HttpOnly class-membership cookie so it can recognise the classes joined on that browser. We store hashes of the membership and CSRF credentials, not their original values. We do not ask for or store your date of birth. The membership cookie can last up to 180 days; leaving a class removes that membership and its class work immediately.

Class dataWho can see it and whyHow long it stays
Random class, member, live-session, submission, and attempt IDs; stable lesson/item IDs and content revision numbers; class language route, type, join code/status, optional usual time, and creation/archive times To connect a student's submitted work to the correct class, lesson and exercise, and to prevent a retried submission from being saved twice. Class records are associated with the teacher's account. While the related class or submission exists
The display name you type, the class you joined, your join and last-active times, and whether you chose to add teacher follow-up exercises to Review. We store hashes of the membership and CSRF credentials, and associate a class with its teacher's account. Your teacher can see the name, class membership, and activity time to run the class and identify your submitted work. We use the follow-up choice only to decide whether teacher exercises can be copied into your Review. While the class exists and you remain a member, subject to the retention limits below
Answers you check, sentence triads, and speaking text you submit in class; server-checked correctness; submitted/reviewed times; and teacher feedback and notes Your teacher can see your class submissions and feedback. A class-wide note is visible to the class. Private feedback is visible only to you and your teacher. A follow-up note enters your Review only if you opted in. While the class exists, subject to the retention limits below
Live lesson ID, content ID and revision, and start/end times Used to keep the class on the same lesson. The live position and answer reveal state are temporary in server memory; they are not written to the classroom database. Session metadata stays with the class. Temporary live state is lost when the session ends or the service restarts.

Your independent practice, personal notebook, and app progress are not shared with the teacher by joining a class. Sharing app progress is not part of this classroom release. Guest class sessions do not collect your email or audio. Speaking text is stored only when you submit it to the class; recordings are not sent to the classroom service.

Class retention

You can leave a class from Student Today; your membership, submissions and feedback in that class are deleted from the live database immediately. Any restricted backup copy expires within 30 days. You can also request deletion at privacy@xpaso.com if you cannot access the browser you used to join. See deletion details.

Speech and recordings

When you practise saying a phrase aloud, the app converts your speech to text using the recognition service built into your device. Which service that is, and whether it runs offline, depends on the device, so both cases are stated here. The practice screen tells you which one applies to you before the microphone opens.

Who else processes your data

Conversation practice is generated by a third-party AI provider (Google, via the Gemini API). Your practice messages are sent to that provider to produce a reply. We do not send your name, email, or account identifier with them.

Sign-in is handled by Apple or Google if you choose to use it. We receive only an opaque account identifier and, if you allow it, your name.

What we never do

Children

Daily Lingo is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information to us, contact privacy@xpaso.com and we will delete it.

On Android, skill conversation transcripts remain temporary in app memory. If you choose “Save to Review”, selected original and corrected excerpts, their explanation, skill, assistance status, and practice dates are stored on your device. You can delete a saved correction and its review history in Review. These excerpts are not automatically shared with teachers and are excluded from app cloud backup and device transfer. Conversation text is processed by our AI provider to supply replies and feedback; temporary app storage does not change provider retention.
